TV Shack Alternative
No More Popup Ads for Me!
The popular site TV Shack was shut down again this month. The short video below shows how badly the government is looking to crack down on sites like TV Shack:
Most people complain about two things when it comes to watching TV Shows:
1. Advertisements (Banners, Popups, Traditional Video Ads)
2. High Cable Bills ($50-$120 per month!)
I’m totally in agreement.
I don’t want to pay $50+ per month for crappy cable TV. And I don’t want those TV Shack popup banner ads telling me I’m the 1,000,000th visitor and I’ve won a new hair straightener.
Hulu and FassPassTV are filled with ads. YouTube is filled with Cats and Fat Kids Dancing. And TV Shack is covered in spammy ads.
Most people ask me what I do as a TV Shack alternative. My answer is simple: Netflix
For $10 a month, I can pretty much watch anything I want Ad free on Netflix. There’s some ridiculous number of movies, like 100,000+. And an equal amount of shows.
My favorite part is there are no commercials. A lot of people like to brag to me that they go to these types of sites and get free TV Shows. Like saving that $10 is worth dealing with popup ads, terrible picture quality, and an illegal site.
Let’s be honest, if you can’t pay $10 a month for Ad Free, Legal TV, you probably shouldn’t be watching Television to begin with. If you can’t afford $10, go get a job.
Anyways, I figured I’d get my rant out to begin with.
I used to watch TV Shack, but I finally got sick of the terrible user interface, retarded level of popup ads, and the fact that the site was shut down every 5 minutes.
After a friend let me borrow his account, I was hooked and grabbed my own account.
QUICK WARNING: If you’re going to sign up for Netflix, save yourself $10 and get the 1-month free trial. The free trial page is fairly well hidden within the official site, so here’s a link to the page where you can get the free trial:
TV Shack Shut Down for the Final Time?
Background on TV Shack – Plus Alternative Free (Ad Supported) TV Services
In the last 10 years or so the internet has seen a plethora of sharing sites like TV Shack and YouTube for everything from files, television, music, programs and just about everything else under the sun. Some of these have been as long lived as Demonoid.com or even the beloved Napster that was the progeny for almost every other sharing site that came afterward. No longer is the general sharing site the end all to either illegal viewing or downloading, these days there are much more specialized sites that cater to something specific like only music, or only programs, or only video.
However some of these sites have started going legitimate and working with the law instead of against them. There are still sites that work outside the law though, one of the most infamous being TVShack.
TV Shack has been an illegal television network site for as long as anyone can remember. Although TV Shack is not the only one, it is one of the larger links in the chain. Sites like TV Shack work by not only being able to search and feed off their own bootleg database but being able to search the databases of other sites they’re connected to it. With that said even if you knock on illegal site down there are still multiple other sites that can feed off each other.
Another Shutdown of This TV Service
This has happened several times, as you can see when TV Shack gets shut down and changes domain names. First .com, then .net, then .cc, then .bz.
TV Shack is constantly running from the law, or operating outside it until a legal authority has time to shut them down.
Even though the U.S. Dept of Customs shuts down any site within its jurisdiction, other sites like TV Shack that are outside of the jurisdiction have free reign for some time. So long as they move their home servers to other countries that do not have either sharing laws or download laws then they can continue to operate without provocation or threat that they may be shut down. Most people have started to head in the right direction and walk away from illegal sites like TV Shack, and thousands of people are starting to steer towards sites that are legal. However, even without viewers voluntarily leaving, TV Shack is fighting an uphill battle against television producers and TV networks.
Other Free Online TV Sites
The thing that most people don’t understand is that there are multiple television sites on the internet that are completely free and totally legal. A good rule to thumb is to go to Hulu.com for most shows. They have everything there that you could want from a
site, and they are completely legitimate as well. While there are commercials on Hulu, they are not nearly as invasive as the popup Ads that litter TV Shack.
In this day and age where internet piracy is commonplace there are only a few sites that can offer people completely legitimate television on the internet. Another good site to go to is fastpasstv.com they also offer completely free television as well.
So as of today free television on the internet is here to stay and it is very doubtful that it will leave anytime in the near future. However the movement to get past illegal television on sites like TV Shack is going to be a hard won path this is only going to be won when people stop using illegal sites like TV Shack. Only when people move over to completely legitimate sites like Hulu, Fasspasstv, or Netflix will this threat and problem be put to rest.
Until then, TV Shack will continue to change domains and add more and more annoying popup ads on the site. Personally, I’m done with them altogether.
Sick of People’s Heads in front of the screen while your watching movies? Sick of popup ads for “free” prizes? Screw TV Shack. Just get a Netflix account and stream high quality TV shows and movies to your computer for $10 a month. If you can’t afford $10 a month, you shouldn’t be watching TV!
i really want to watch TV
